2010 Projects

Well I'm starting some of my projects.

7-23-10 -  I have the spinner completely finished but now I need to figure out how to mount and make it spin.  The first picture is the spinner itself and it is 8' tall so it will stand out in the display and the other picture is the base and that is about 6.5' tall.  The mounting area is where the double 2x4 is and that is about 5.5' up.  I have a couple of bearings that I'm thinking of glueing into the wood and then through it place a 7/16" threaded rod to mount the spinner and sprocket to to make it spin.  The wood will all be covered with something (I'm going to wait until elections are over and maybe collect some of the large signs to make the coverings.  We have a bunch around the area right now due to the primary elections.  You can click on the picture to make it larger.

I am currently painting a spinner for the yard.  I have a prototype of the base created and know what I need to do so I need to get cutting the actual boards to make it.  I need to find a DC constant use motor to drive this and make a drive shaft for it.

After that one I need to make a fence to enclose the front yard better.  I had a couple of kids trying to dance in the yard.

I may be purchasing snow machines, if I get a group to allow me to collect funds for them I'll need to get a security mailbox for the funds to be secured and make a mounting for it too.

I also need to search for additional songs for the year. I'm hoping to have 14 songs this year to have 2-3 different sequences.

7-11-10
I've picked most of the songs this year.
All Night Long -Montgomery Gentry
Carol of the Bells - Monique3 Danielle
Wonderful Christmastime - Paul McCartney
Carol of the Bells - David Foster
The Christmas Can-Can - Straight No Chaser
The 12 Days of Christmas - Straight No Chaser
Hey Santa - Straight No Chaser
The House on Christmas Street - Judy Pondcoast
I may use some of the other songs from last year but I'm undecided.  I currently have one of them listed but everything else is new.

2009 Projects

11/26/09 - Well the lights are on and for the most part the display is complete.  I do need to make 2 driveway arches with red and white lights.  I'm hoping that it will be more of a candy cane look than the other arches.  I also need to add additional lights to 2 mini trees and get them hooked up and will have them placed by the end of this weekend.

9/24/09- Am I ever behind this year.  I've been working behind the sceens on working on the programming on the songs.  This year I'm hoping to have 12 songs programmed with 2 different schedules for the songs.  One that will play on the weekends and the other on the weekends so you may hear different songs if you return.

I have many projects that I need to finish.  I need to may 2 more jumping poles, a power string to light up the roof, a giant candy cane pole, new signs, and 2 arches over the driveway.  I have most of it layed out but I need to put lights on everything.  We will be adding a lot more lights around the yard including wrapping most of the trees.

I've been busy with the family also so that is taking up time.  Normally I only work on my projects at night but the garage is hot so I try not to spend too much time on the projects.  Where is the cool weather???  I should be able to have everything completed and ready to light up on Thanksgiving weekend.

2008 Projects

11/21/08 - I had the Mega Tree up and half of it powered up and running.  I came home the next day and the rope that I used streched 6 inches and I was afraid that the rope will break if it keeps streaching so I took it down.  I need to get new rope so it won't do that again.  I have one Palm tree with lights on it but I have over 20,000 lights that need to be placed still.  I still need to make 2 jumping poles and 2 leaping arches.  I hope to have most of the lights placed this weekend.

11/13/08 - Working on providing power for the display.  I have added 6 20amp circuits to the garage to run the display .  I cut the 3" PVC to finish the last of the Candy Cane poles.  I've also done a preliminary layout in the front yard and everything is going to work the way that I was hoping to have it.  I have one of the palm trunks partly wrapped but have to complete it and do the second palm tree.  I also need to decide what else will be getting lights.  I'm still hoping to have the lights setup and turned on for Thanksgiving but that is being hopeful.  I still need to get moved in and now I'm doing dinner for the family.  I need to rewire the extension cords that I created for the arches since I put the wrong ends into the wrong Molex connectors.

9/16/08 - Completed 6 light strands for the Candy Cane Poles and ready to go into the 2 painted and 3 cut poles.

Completed 3rd power cord for the arches

Tested controllers that I set up during the winter.  I have several plugs that I need to re-wire.
